A 17-year-old boy, who struck his mother with a hoe on the head, will spend the next three years in a Juvenile prison after being convicted of attempted murder.
The court noted that the teenager needs help and the only suitable place for his rehabilitation is an institution created to help young offenders.
The court heard that the teenager was angry with his mother after she refused to give him money to buy drugs.
The teenager waited for his mother to sleep before attacking her at around 1 am.
He then stole US$3 from his mother’s wallet to buy drugs.
Cases of violence related to drug abuse have been on the increase with some of them ending fatally.
