Strong demand for hotel and flight services as Covid-19 restrictions are totally eased globally

Story by Owen Mandovha

The business community is bracing up for a festive season with a difference as it will be the first in three years to take place without any COVID-19-induced restrictions.

A representative of the Zimbabwe Tourism Council says one will be very lucky if they are able to secure hotel bookings now due to the overwhelming demand for accommodation this upcoming season.

“Many of the hotel resorts are reporting full bookings at the moment and we have seen that the last three years, experiences of COVIC-19 taught people of the importance of domestic tourism and that has stimulated demand for the hotel services,” said Mr Wengai Nhau, president of the Zimbabwe Tourism Council.

It is a similar quagmire for those booking flights as strong demand has also seen fares going over the roof.

Ms Zodwa Mkandla, a travel consultant said, “Most of the airlines are fully booked hence you will see that SA Airways will start to fly the Johannesburg Victoria Falls route. These are expected to be holidays with a difference and diasporans have also shown great interest in coming back to Zimbabwe hence a hive of activity is anticipated.”

The current price stability heading into the festive season is expected to be the icing on the cake for holidaymakers and revellers in the aftermath of successive lockdowns across the globe.
