A 17-year-old boy from Harare, who struck his mother with a hoe after she refused to give him money for illicit drugs, has been convicted of attempted murder.
The teenager almost killed his mother in her sleep after striking her in the face with a hoe before stabbing her several times in the chest and neck with a fork.
He was convicted at his own plea of guilt.
The court heard that the boy waited for his mother to go to sleep before attacking her at around 1 a.m.
The teenager admitted to committing the crime but failed to explain why he had committed the offence.
He was remanded in custody and is awaiting sentencing.
Cases of violence related to drug abuse, have been on the increase with some ending fatally.
