More than twenty countries are set to participate in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event which gets underway on November 28 in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe will be represented by more than 20 participants in the tournament which will see the majority of junior tennis players getting a rare opportunity to showcase their talent and improve their rankings.
“We are happy to be hosting the tournament, you will realize the majority of our junior players are not able to foot travelling costs to remain in the court hence we hope it’s a lifetime opportunity for them to compete,” said Thesly Mufunda, the convener.
Tournament Director Tarwirwa Chikunichawa highlighted how Zimbabwe is taking the opportunity to position the country as a tourist destination.
“As Tennis Zimbabwe, we are leveraging on this tournament to encourage sports tourism the fact that 20 countries will be participating is an opportunity to market brand Zimbabwe,” said Tarwirwa Chikunichawa, the tournament’s director.
The ITF-certified tournament will run for two weeks with qualifiers set to be played from November 26.
