ZIFA forensic audit results expose massive financial mismanagement

By Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

THE forensic audit into the financial affairs of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), instigated by the Sports and Recreation Commission- (SRC), has exposed massive abuse of funds by the local football mother body.

Exactly a year ago, the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive over various allegations including misappropriation of funds.

The SRC subsequently called for a forensic audit which was conducted by BDO Chartered Accountants and released this Thursday.

The audit reviewed that there is more than US$600 000 and ZWL$17 million that is unaccounted for.

It also showed that ZIFA purchased two buses two years ago that are yet to be delivered.

It went further to highlight that ZIFA has done business worth over US$100 000 through a company owned by Marshal Jonga the president of nonexistent beach football in Zimbabwe.

All the banking transactions were signed for by the trio of former ZIFA President Felton Kamambo, board member finance Philemon Machana and chief executive officer, Joseph Mamutse.

The SRC indicated that there will be repercussions for those found on the wrong side of the law.

“We have done our part and now we hand it over to the authorities who deal with these issues, the Police, ZACC and the Financial Integrity Unity and they will investigate further,” said Gerald Mlotshwa, SRC chairperson.

The SRC also disclosed that they will engage the world football governing body, FIFA, to readmit Zimbabwe into the international football community after the country was suspended for third-party interference in football matters.

“The Restructuring report will be presented on December 15 and after that we will look at the recommendations and create a road map on engaging FIFA,” he added.

The audit covered the period from December 1, 2018, up to November 30, 2021
