ZENGEZA West legislator Job Sikhala’s fresh bid for freedom has been postponed to Monday the 21st of November 2022.
Sikhala’s intention to file a fresh bail application on changed circumstances in a case he is accused of inciting public violence in Nyatsime after allegedly encouraging his party supporters to avenge Moreblessing Ali’s death hit a snag this Friday.
The presiding magistrate could not hear the application as there was no electricity making it impossible for the proceedings to be machine-recorded as required under the Magistrate’s Act.
Sikhala’s intention to apply for bail halted the commencement of the trial which was scheduled to start last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the trial of Citizens Coalition for Change members, Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri accused of faking their abduction before publishing falsehoods was postponed to next year by a Harare court.
The postponement was made to allow for the High Court to make a determination on their application for review against a magistrate’s ruling dismissing the duo’s application for discharge.
