Senate President to champion women’s rights at a regional level

By John Nhandara

THE ZANU PF Women’s League says the election of the Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona as President of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) will champion women’s rights at a regional level.

ZANU PF Women’s League National Political Commissar, Cde Maybe Mbohwa said the election of Cde Chinomona will ensure Zimbabwe is represented at the regional level in addressing social ills that affect women.

“This post has given us joy as women because we know that one of our own will make us shine in the whole of the African continent. We are banking our trust on her as APU president as we know that she will stand for women’s rights. We have so many things of issues that we need to be addressed,” said Cde Mbowa.

ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary for Finance, Cde Caroline Mugabe weighed in saying Cde Chinomona has what it takes for the APU position.

“She is firm and hardworking and deserves that position. She has vast experience related to the position she has been elected to. She is a politician who has seen it all. It’s so inspiring,” she said.

Zimbabwe hosted the 78th Session of the Executive Committee and 44th Conference of the African Parliamentary Union in Victoria falls last week.
