Chitungwiza North legislator freed on ZW$300k bail

By Fungai Jachi

Chitungwiza North legislator, Godfrey Sithole, who is facing allegations of inciting public violence, has been freed on a ZW$300 000 bail.

Sithole, who is accused of inciting public violence in Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza, has had his freedom bid granted by a Harare magistrate, Marehwanazvo Gofa.

The ZW$300 000 bail quantum is coupled with stringent conditions that include reporting twice a week at the Chitungwiza Police Station and surrendering his passport to the Clerk of Court until the finalisation of the matter.

Sithole is being jointly charged with another CCC legislator, Job Sikhala, whose numerous bail applications have been thrown out by the court for violating previous bail conditions in another matter of inciting public violence.

The initial matter is still pending before the courts.

The pair allegedly influenced their party supporters to avenge Moreblessing Ali’s death whom they claimed to be their party member.

The violence resulted in the destruction of property in Nyatsime.

The two are expected to be back in court on the 15th of this month for trial.
