Up to 18 transmitters have been installed countrywide, with the government targeting to improve information access to traditionally marginalised areas.
This came to light at the Transmedia strategic meeting held in Harare this Friday, amid commitment by the government to enhance access to information by all the country’s citizens as the digitalisation drive gathers pace.
Transmedia Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Adonia Mushosho confirmed that traditionally marginalised areas have been a priority in the installation of broadcasting transmitters.
“We would want to thank the government for putting in place the correct fundamentals which have normalised the economy that has allowed us to work better,” she said.
The government says more funding is required for the digitalisation exercise to be completed.
“We are on a seven-year backlog in order to complete the digitalisation programme which started in 2015. The current allocation was not adequate,” noted the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Kindness Paradza.
The government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind has seen the transformation of the media industry through the licensing of more players in both radio and television broadcasting.
