NATIONAL cricket team coach, Dave Houghton is satisfied with the Chevrons’ progress at the ongoing International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia despite losses to Bangladesh and Netherlands in the Super 12.
Zimbabwe’s latest loss to the Netherlands means they will not progress to the semi-finals.
Going into the tournament, the Chevrons set themselves a target of reaching the Super 12, a feat they managed to achieve.
The team drew with South Africa before going on to claim the scalp of heavyweights, Pakistan, but they lost to Bangladesh and Netherlands in the Super 12 stage.
Dave Houghton, the man who has been credited for changing the fortunes of the national team, is only taking positives from the team’s performance.
“We went through two tough qualifying tournaments and played under extreme pressure at times, even though they were against lesser sides, that got us to this stage. If you had told me in June when I started that we would end up being sort of two games away from the possibility of getting to a semi-final, I would have bitten your hand off for it.
” It has been a positive journey for us all. It’s just a pity for us today that we chose this game to actually have our worst game,” he said.
Zimbabwe will take on India in their final group match on Sunday looking to bow out of the tournament with pride.
