Patients get free eye surgeries at Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Unit

By Abigirl Tembo, Health Editor

OVER 200 patients have so far benefited from the ongoing free adult eye camp taking place at Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Unit at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

The free adult cataract screening and surgery camp has been running since Sunday at Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Centre in Harare.

Nurses and doctors have been working from 5 am to 8 pm every day since Sunday, the Matron for Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Centre, Jane Savetu says the response from the public has been overwhelming.

“We are having an eye camp where we are saying we want to operate on mature cataracts for adult patients whom we are screening and then sending to the theatre and looking after them as well postoperatively.

“The response has been very overwhelming from the first day, we got about 600 patients who came in to date. You will realise that there are more people out there with visual problems than we imagine. People are coming in as early as 5 am then we work throughout the day and we leave around 8 pm,” she said.

The free eye camp, which has been running since Sunday will end this Friday with dates for the next camp set to be released.
