LYDIA Chimonyo Girls High School in Chimanimani has received the last food consignment courtesy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa following a pledge during his visit to Manicaland Province earlier.
The Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyeri this Tuesday handed over chickens, mealie meal and rice to the girls’ school.
Honourable Matsikenyeri said the gesture by the President underscores his ultimate commitment towards improving the welfare of everyone, including school children not only in Manicaland province but across the county.
“Today we have handed over 1000 birds to the school and very soon we are delivering the remaining 400. Remember sometime in September we delivered the first consignment. We want to thank His Excellency the President for being a listening President.
“He was approached by the girl who requested meat to be part of their diet as their parents could not afford to provide a balanced diet at the school after being affected by Cyclone Idai and the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the Minister.
The food consignment was received to the delight of school authorities and students at the school.
“We are happy that we have received these food items. Indeed the girls were complaining that they wanted meat and the President has delivered so we are very happy,” said Ms Maggie Chinyerera the Headmistress at Lydia Chimonyo Girls High School.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa continue to lead from the front in ensuring that no one and no place is left behind in terms of development, empowerment and addressing social issues.
