THE Chevrons are looking to bounce back to winning ways when they tackle the Netherlands in their penultimate Super 12 Group Two match at the ongoing International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Zimbabwe and Netherlands, who are set to face each other only for the fifth time in T20s, meet three and a half months after their ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier match in Bulawayo which was won by the Chevrons.
The match is also going to be only the second Zimbabwe versus Netherlands T20 World Cup match, Zimbabwe won the first one in Sylhet, Bangladesh eight years ago.
Zimbabwe also edges the Dutch on the head-to-head record, having won three of the four times they have met.
Ahead of the match on Wednesday, Chevrons captain Craig Ervine is hoping the World Cup can be a turn-around for the game back home.
“I think the last few months, Zimbabwe cricket has been great from strength to strength. We’ve had some good results. I think it’s not just this World Cup. I think it’s something that we need to try and do consistently going forward. You can always have a really good World Cup, and then after that things drop back down again. That’s going to be the challenge for us is to keep this momentum up and keep these performances coming through,” he said.
Zimbabwe is in the fourth position after winning and losing a match thus far, while the Netherlands is still to pick up a point to date.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan is out of the World Cup after losing to Sri Lanka by six wickets.
